The Digital Security Initiative in Vietnam aims to train 10,000 cyber security professionals by 2030 to continue enhancing the digital economy and strengthening their digital security infrastructure. This is part of a broader initiative to achieve technological independence from other countries and ensure appropriate safeguards against a range of cyber-attack threats.
In order to achieve these goals, the Government of Vietnam has implemented Plan No. 04 on Information and Data Security as part of the CSTIDT. By following this plan, the skills and capabilities of Vietnam’s cyber security professionals will be developed to use to adequately protect against threats to their most critical infrastructures (digital), as well as those of the Government and Private Sector.
Operationally, Vietnam anticipates creating and implementing the above-referenced Cyber security Professionals by a 2026 milestone/trigger date. At such time, the Government plans on:
- Encouraging Cyber security Awareness, Adoption and Innovation Across All Government and Private Sector Institutions.
- Revising All Laws and Regulations Related To Cyber security.
- Removing All Administrative Barriers Impacting Introducing New Technology And Cyber security.
These initiatives are expected to support the development and growth of domestic Cyber security Companies and Cyber security Research and Technology Institutions located in Vietnam.
Establishing a united and modern national infrastructure for cyber security that serves to provide security for both digital information systems and infrastructure types will be a key component of an overall strategy to protect physical information system and digital infrastructure from security-related issues.
These two projects, involving collaboration among the professionals involved in the development of a Digital Security Solutions Network and Building a Cyber Security Network of Professionals would provide non-physical systems with cyber security. In addition, the government would establish large-scale training programs in Cyber Security Knowledge that would be available to strengthen cyber security for government officials, corporate leaders, and the general public.
As Vietnam continues its efforts to strengthen and expand cyber security through the year 2030, it will remain among the top 20 countries for the purposes of the Global Cyber Security Index and included in the Global Cyber Security Index based upon its ability to manage risk and provide protection for the electronic and data of its citizens using the Cyber Security Definition.
The initiative will also include a focus on self-sufficiency and self-determination in technology. By the end of this decade, Vietnamese officials want to make in Vietnam” cyber security goods and services to represent more than 50% of the domestic market. This will change the dependency of the country on foreign technology and elevate and enhance Vietnam’s digital sovereignty.
Additionally, the initiative outlines the trajectory for 2045 where the country will possess an internationally competitive cybersecurity ecosystem supported by recognised experts and advanced cyber research capability.
Experts believe the initiative demonstrates that Vietnam remains committed to protecting its rapidly growing digital economy and developing a new generation of cybersecurity practitioners to ultimately combat future global cyber threats that may become more sophisticated.
