The Egyptian food industry has hit all-time high levels of export activity thanks to increased production and an increase in foreign investment, which has propelled Egypt’s role as a major player in global food markets. Officials claim the industry’s impressive growth is due to several factors including greater agricultural production, modernization of food processing facilities and increased access to international markets.
According to data released by the Egyptian government, Egypt’s food industry made approximately $6.3 billion in exports in Fiscal Year 2024/25, making this the highest level of exports ever for this sector. This is a 43.2% increase from Fiscal Year 2021/22, further illustrating how strong the performance of the food manufacturing sector has been within Egypt.
The rapid growth of the Egyptian food manufacturing sector is being driven by an increasing demand for Egyptian food products internationally as well as government programs aimed at increasing productive capabilities within the manufacturing sector. The government has created a variety of financial support and investment incentive programs for manufacturers to modernize their production lines, improve productivity and meet international quality standards.
The agricultural sector has been critical to the success of Egypt’s industrial sector. In 2025, Egypt produced an estimated 10,004,702 metric tons of grains (about 27% of total crops), approximately 17,731,230 metric tons of sugar crops (including over 4 million metric tons of sugar beets), and almost 9,000,000 metric tons of vegetables.
Strong livestock, poultry, dairy, and fishery production also provided the agricultural sector with a steady supply of raw materials for the food processing industry.
Analysts believe that Egypt’s location between Africa, Europe, and the Middle East is an advantage for exporting food products. Increasing amounts of food from Egypt are being exported throughout the region and internationally. These developments have also helped increase Egypt’s ability to compete with other nations in international trade.
Officials from the government of Egypt expect to see ongoing investments in agriculture and food processing continue to increase production capacity and volume of exports. Therefore, the food processing industry will likely continue to be one of Egypt’s major sectors and a major driver of economic growth as well as an important source of foreign currency.
